BLUE TAKES THE SILVER DIVISON.
It
was a long tournament, but worth it. The
girls played very well and came out on
top. Going undefeated in the Silver
division made it nice not to have to
fight back through the loser's bracket.
All of the girls played their hearts out
and did a wonderful job, topping off a
wonderful season. Winning in the finals
I thought might be tough seeing that we
were going against Nike Impact for the
THIRD time this tournament (and it seems
like the 50th time this season), not
always having the best of luck. So, I
was very happy that we did it in two.
I
would love to go more in-depth for you,
but it is 1:30 am and I have a plane to
catch at 6 am!!
So
way to go girls, I am very proud of your
play all season. It was an honor
coaching you all!!!

So we like to make it exciting!! We sure
did start off with a bang. Came out
against a very good Rose City team and
just did everything right. So much fun
to watch. Then we went through a bit of
a slump with PVC and Impact, just
weren't having fun out there. During the
playoff match we sure did find that team
that started out the day and played very
well. They tried to scare me a bit with
a 26-24 finish when we had a 10-0
lead!!!!
I
saw a lot of good things from these
girls. Whitney came alive at the net and
was a blocking machine against Rose
City! Brittini came back after missing
Yakima because of an injury and did some
super stuff. Jonelle, Allison, and Lisa
were strong all day. Kaycee and Jocelyn
did some nice stuff with their hands!
Michelle played solid all around after
coming back from having her tonsils out.
Our defense at the end of the day was
fantastic with Hillary, Alicia and Sara
passing some great balls. Lauren in the
past has found success in the back row,
but this tournament she came alive in
the front row - she just did a great
job.
So
there should be some great things to
come in Bend. I can't wait.

MOVING ON UP!!
Well,
this weekend we made our goal of making
it to gold. I was very happy with our
offensive game. The setters and hitters
are connecting better, in my eyes. We
lost a little bit from the Longview
Tournament on the defensive side. The
key is passing - when we pass well
everything comes together. So if we put
the two together, we are going to do
very well in Yakima.
I
know we did our best because the girls
were so tired after the last match,
giving it their all. Nice job girls.

Blue goes from a third place seed to a
tournament winner!!
It
was a great weekend for this team - we
showed our true heart! First off, I
would like to say that if there was a
"Best Play of the Day" award,
it would have gone to Jonelle Davis, and
that is not just me saying that - her
team also was quite impressed with her
this weekend. She was definitely on!!
Lisa and Allison continued to make some
key blocks when we needed them. Kaycee
and Jocelyn are getting smarter and
playing some great defense from the
setter position. Lauren is finding her
hitting streak, while continuing to pass
well. Brittini and the setters connected
for some powerful hits. Whitney and
Michelle had some great right side play
and helped make our offense a full
force. Sara, Hillary, and Alicia are
getting some great digs. They have
really stepped up and this is what has
made us a team that doesn't give up and
fights all the way. Just ask any of the
parents - they can tell you that when we
thought it was all down hill, the girls
just proved us wrong. Which is so lovely
to see.
I
could go on forever - I couldn't sleep
thinking of how proud I was of these
girls. It just gets me that much more
excited about the upcoming power league.
If we keep this up, watch out!!

Notes
and Quotes:
We are continuing to make progress with
each game we are playing. We were right
there with both Academy and Rose City -
we just have to find that little bit to
get over the top. Allison had a great
day (probably because it was her
birthday!!) She is getting some great
blocks. Lisa also is making herself
known at the net with some great stuffs!
The standout this weekend was our
defense - till now that had been our
weakness, in my eyes, but they have
proved that they can get it done and hit
the floor for many balls. Hillary
stepped up her play and was outstanding.
Alicia also had a lot of digs up that I
thought for sure were going to hit the
floor. Lauren was great at playing any
position I needed from her, helping us
get out of tight positions. Michelle did
dual duty this weekend playing both the
front and back row, always getting the
job done and done well. Sara has
continued to be stellar at defense in
the front and back row, also adding some
smart hitting. Jonelle continues to be
our go-to girl on the outside, with some
nice hitting. At the end of the day
Brittini played outside and hit some
very powerful balls - looking forward to
seeing more of that. Jocelyn and Kaycee
continue to grow as setters, both
realizing that it is a very important
job in the success of the team. Also,
they had a great day of tough serving.
This was the weekend where we finally
got Whitney back in some kneepads!!!!
She had a very successful day after
being out for more than two months. We
are very pleased to have her back.

Notes

ALL WAS PERFECT!
Well, it is always nice when you can say
you left a tournament perfect with no
losses, not even a game! Nicely done
girls. A lot of good things came out of
this tournament. We got to work out a
few of our kinks that we had last
tournament. Our serving as a team was
outstanding with Kaycee putting in 45
points and only one missed serve. Our
middles keep getting better; Allison Lee
made herself known in the blocking
department with 14 blocks and Lisa
Walker is getting more aggressive by the
moment, taking her hitting percentage up
20 points from last tournament. Our
other middle Brittini is leading the
team with kill percentage and has also
been spending time on the outside - we
look for good things to come. Jonelle
came away with 20 kills on the day, but
what impressed me was her improvement on
defense and serve receive - she had some
great passes. Sara playing outside and
middle back is getting to a lot of
balls; she is learning to use all the
holes on the other side of the net.
Michelle, Hillary, and Alicia are doing
a great job on defense for us. Alicia
has come into her own back there taking
charge. Michelle has been doing a little
of everything for us, which is nice to
have a player that can play at each
position well - it eases the coach's
mind. Hillary is our most scrappy
player, getting to a lot of ball this
weekend and getting loose balls over the
net - you know nothing is going to drop
with her in the back row. Lauren had
only played back row last weekend, but
this weekend she had her turn at the
front and did a great job putting some
balls down. Our setters Jocelyn and
Kaycee are coming along great. Running a
6-2 and putting up a great wall at the
net is nice. By the end of the day
Jocelyn was putting up some great sets
and smashing the ball with 13 kills.
Kaycee got to many more balls on defense
and is making smart plays with the
hitters.
After this tournament I feel we are now
ready to take on the power league! |

Notes
and Quotes:
Well, Here we go everyone!! After this
first tournament under our belt I am
very exited for the season to get under
way. This tournament was a great
opportunity to see how things gel
together for this team. I have found a
few things we have to work on, but I am
very happy with the play of the team. We
are definitely going to have a good
season, there is a lot of potential in
this group of girls, we have a full team
of talent.
Brittini Reid found a lot of
success in the hitting department with
26 kills and not far behind is Jonelle
Davis with 23, and Jocelyn Judd
had 21 kills. Allison Lee added
20 points and got her hands on a lot of
balls and made a statement in the
middle, also Lisa Walker did get
some good blocks and I expect much more
to come from these girls. Sarah Bliss
and Michelle Storedahl found
success all around, both playing outside
and libero. Lauren Wiswall made
great contributions with 15 points and
great passing. On the defensive side Hillary
Mussman and Alicia Haseman
had some great digs and were all over
the court. Running the team at setter
are Kaycee Krebs and Jocelyn
Judd, I expect a lot out of these girls
being a setter myself, and I know that
they will exceed my expectations. They
are finding out what it takes to run a
great offense. Kaycee also put up a
great wall on the right side, stopping a
lot of balls.
So everyone get on now and enjoy the
ride. |
