Notes and Quotes:
The team played inconsistently through the first two rounds of pool play, losing in straight sets to Rose City Black who we have beaten twice previously, and Webfoot Gold who we have also previously beaten. However, when the time came to play PVC Blue for the first time this season, the team stepped it up winning the first game 25-22, and fought hard in the second losing 21-25, and then losing the third as well to place 4th in pool play.

We carried over the momentum from the PVC match into the afternoon crossover match and put away South Coast handedly. However, that momentum dissipated a bit prior to the seeding match against Rose City Black which we lost.

At the end of the day we determined that we played just well enough to stay in the Gold Division for the Regional Tournament later this month but that we are committed to improving throughout the remainder of the season.

Notes and Quotes:
The 16's Black team had an excellent weekend in Phoenix, despite the rainy weather, and the really long days! The team put in a tremendous effort all weekend and proceeded to step up their level of play to a new degree. The team posted a 6-2 record and finished tied for third overall in the tournament. Saturday's play was relatively uneventful and went pretty much as planned.

Sunday was another story however, starting with a bad situation during the first match of the day which we had the bad luck of officiating. Fans and parents of the Fusion 15's team from Highplains, Texas were out of control when their team was losing and proceeded to take out their frustration on those that were officiating. Needless to say, the team needed no other motivation when it came to their opportunity to play them later that afternoon, and handed them their second loss of the tournament.

As the tournament progressed, the team continued to get more efficient with their ball handling, and finished the tournament with 163 perfect passes and a 2.14 cumulative passing percentage led by Kim Carter with a 2.24 for the weekend. Additionally, the team collectively played outstanding defense throughout the tournament, resulting in 66 digs led by Dani Nelson with 16 on the weekend.

For the weekend, notable performances were recorded by Shyanna Davis with a 59% assist percentage, and an 81% kill percentage (way to dump the ball!!!!). Kara VanZanten contributed 48 kills, and Ashley Grayson provided another 38.

Great team effort…. Nice job!

Have a good week off… see you next Wednesday at LCC at 6:30.

Notes and Quotes:
The 16's Black team stepped up their play in the afternoon to obtain the fifth seed in the Gold Division for the April tournament. While the team was not playing at their best, they gave their opponents a challenge, taking each pool play match to a third game. The team stepped up their level of intensity in the afternoon and beat Rose City to maintain residence in the Gold division, and proceeded to beat Webfoot in the one game seeding round to take the 5th place seed in the Gold Division for the April Power League.

Notes and Quotes:
It was a big weekend for the 16's Black team as they posted a 7-2 record while finishing 6th in the Power 16's tournament out of the 40 teams entered. After two rounds of pool play, the team was undefeated. Teams were re-seeded, and based on record and point differentials, we were seeded 3rd overall, earning us a bye in the first round of the 12 team modified double elimination power championship bracket. A 7-2 record at the Yakima Jamboree is a good effort, however, with a consistent effort, we could have been in the semi-finals and is always an emphasis for us.

For the weekend, notable performances were recorded by Jonelle Davis with a 100% serving percentage contributing to 34 points, and Kara VanZanten with an excellent 2.46 passing percentage for the weekend. Ashley Grayson commanded the net with a season high 33 blocks on the weekend, which just happened to be exactly ˝ of all blocks for the weekend.

Notes and Quotes:
The Cowlitz 16's Black team learned the necessity to play at a high level of intensity regardless of the level of the competition. The morning pool competition was not very strong, and we were able to use the time to work on some things, which we were able to use effectively in the afternoon matches.

The team was able to elevate their level of play throughout the day as the level of competition increased and did a good job of maintaining their focus and composure when games got tight.

The team was seeded 6th coming into this tournament with 5 teams placing higher than us at the Power League Qualifier attending, including Webfoot Gold who is currently seeded #1 in the Gold Division of Power League. This tournament provided us a great opportunity to see the level of play we will be up against during power league and identify some areas for improvement.

Great job this weekend!
