Notes and Quotes:
14 blue performed incredible Sunday as they took both pools of the day, losing only one game in the five matches they played. After a forgettable sleepwalking morning, the girls woke up and played the best volleyball of the year, beating all opponents they faced. Their individual play will not be mentioned, as the coaching staff felt it was a total team effort. As we all know, their is no "I" in the word team, and to perform as a team, it takes a collective effort. All I want to say is "WOW!" Everything we have been working on in practice gelled on Sunday as the team came through and responded to every challenge the opposing teams offered. I strongly feel this team is capable of competing with all teams in the U14 age group, and will continue to improve through the remainder of the season. Way to go girls, we are proud of you and your team effort!!!

Mike, Julie and Jim

Notes and Quotes:
Blue got into the tournament swing full time and big time this past weekend at Rose City. There were many of the top teams in our region playing and it seems we saw them all. Not only did we play our Black team again, but we played Nike's top two teams, Air Elite and Power. The girls did great and showed everyone we are a very competitive team. There were close games with all and we received comments from the opposing coaches as to the quality of our team...I was proud of the girls even with the losses as the adage "that which does not kill you only makes you stronger" was proven throughout the day.

There were also many individual improvements as the girls are starting to hone their individual skills. After a shaky start, the girls settled down and passed fantastic. Mikah Clancey (libero) anchored the back all day with a solid performance. Meghan LaRoy made numerous key passes during critical times, as well as some very improved play in the front row. My two Em's (Emily O'Halleran and Emily Gray) made significant contributions all around the court. The monsters in the middle, Ashlee Logan and Rachel Lassen, were on the net all day, making life hard on the other side. Ashlee continues to make the other teams flinch when she hits and both of them made great gains in understanding how to play balls off the net. The setters worked really hard, chasing down balls and putting up good sets. Amy Higginson and Holly Bauer showed some of the skills Cowlitz Alumni Jeni Sabo (Western New Mexico) worked on during a skills session last week. Thanks Jeni!! (and to Jim Oldis for getting her there) Lindsey Divine played a solid all around game, showing her versatility by playing outside and right side throughout the day. Whitney Beck and Aimee Abena showed great improvement in their game as they are now understanding the offense and defense. This allowed them to make contributions to the team during their rotations through the lineup. A special thanks to my coaches, Julie Hicklin and Jim Oldis, their help and company throughout the day was invaluable. An additional thank you to Char Andrews, who made a guest appearance on our bench during a critical time and showed the girls how important bench involvement is to the squad on the floor. Char led the cheerleading team, urging our girls on to victory during morning play.

I would like to end this by saying how proud I was of the girls for keeping their heads up during a tough day of play. Even with some of the toughest losses, they maintained their composure and kept trying their best. Girls, you are a very good team, one others will be afraid to see in their pool or bracket. Keep up the good work...Mike
