Power League - April
SILVER DIVISION

Notes and Quotes:
Wow!! 14's Black had an excellent performance at our last Power League placing 2nd in the Silver Division. Of course we should have been first but we did fall short a few times ... victims to the one-touch volleyball game. I thought I'd left that behind at the twelve's division. It took some adjusting in that final match but it was a little too late for us. Our setters Denali and Talia have improved immensely. They are both very strong players and I hope they continue their volleyball careers. They are all working hard to improve on their technical skills. I'm very proud of the effort put forth by this group. Great job ladies.

Notes and Quotes:
Wow, what a great weekend! The ladies placed 13th out of 32 in the 14's Power Division. We placed 2nd in our pool on day one and 4th in our pool day two. All our matches were close. The girls played great as a team. Our two setters Talia Hamer and Denali Preston were excellent leaders and both improved their game immensely. Talia has a beautiful set of setter's hands and Denali leads with intensity. Rebecca Haight was strong all weekend on the outside. Her aggressiveness improved the entire tournament, and in the last match when everyone was pretty tired, she was in the air getting kill after kill. Daryl Neu and Ellen Payne were both strong in the middle ... they figured out their timing on their blocks and were at least getting touches. Daryl was sick with a little flu bug and Ellen was injured ... they both came through and gave all they had for the team. Allie Jones, our other lefty, improved as well. She plays outside and right-side and is incredibly effective in both positions. She is going to be a great hitter when we can get her a little meaner. Mandy Clewett played right side for us; she set the block well and was the spark plug we needed at the end of the day. She had a beautiful set to assist Rebecca for one of her slams. Our DEFENSE .... Marnee Clancy, Cayden Gaston, and our Libero Andrea DeRosier ... WOW!  Not enough can be said for how well they played. They kept us going all weekend with their great free-ball passing and defensive plays. These are 3 very intense players who love the game of volleyball and it shows in their faces and in their hustle. I was so proud of all of them. Like I said before, we improved over the weekend and I'm looking forward to pushing our game to another level. A HUGE thank you to all the parents ... your positive support was and is always vital to our success.

Notes and Quotes:
Our first Power League proved to be successful for us but not pretty. Our morning started off slow playing Lakeside of Portland, losing to them in three. We were all a little sleepy. Missing 15 serves didn't help either. Our next match was against Nike Force; the first match was a breeze. The girls looked great, we were making our serves and setting the middle, and our passes were on. The next game against Nike, I played with the line-up which challenged all the girls and had the parents saying hmmm .... Our last match in pool play was against Yakima Gold. Wow what a fight! The girls took them in three. Still missing over 10 serves. Serving will be seriously worked at practice Tuesday. We placed first in pool and made it into the Gold Division. Pool play in the afternoon was somewhat painful for all of us. We lost our momentum, we still couldn't serve, but we couldn't pass either. The girls never gave up working hard, but nothing was really going our way. No worries, though; these ladies are tenacious and will come back ready to play hard our next tournament.

Notes and Quotes:
Wow, what a great start! Our morning started off strong. The girls played together as if they had been with each other for a couple years now. They communicated well, our serve receive was great, our attack was fast and our defense was all-out. Everyone contributed to our success throughout the day. We were the only team the whole day that set ones to the middle; many teams practiced ones in their warm-ups but made no attempts during a match. Our setters Denali Preston and Talia Hamer were great leaders; they are both powerful players. Ranee Cline and Daryl Neu attacked the middle consistently; they are both doing something they had never done before but are accepting the fast attack and working hard to make it happen. Mandy Clewett was aggressive as a right side hitter and occasional outside hitter. When her timing clicks for her, she will be dangerous. Cayden Gaston served well and came in to play left side defense and was solid with consistent free ball passes to the target. Allie Jones had some time as a right side hitter for us and did well. She's a lefty and has a wicked swing. My seventh graders Marnee Clancy, Andrea DeRosier, and Rebecca Haight......WOW!!!! These are three tough, aggressive girls and their will to win at such an early age is exciting for me as a coach and impressive that they have such maturity on the court at such an young age. We have much work to do ahead, but with the work ethic of these ladies and their love for this sport, we will have an intense and fun season. GREAT JOB LADIES!!!
