OVERVIEW
Digital
photos of CVC teams, players, and related subjects can be
posted on the CVC website! Once you've taken the
photo and downloaded it to your computer, all that's
necessary is to e-mail the photo to the CVC Webmaster,
Rick Woodruff, at
webmaster@cowlitzvolleyball.com

FILE
TYPE AND QUALITY
Most
digital cameras store their photo files in JPEG
format. This is the recommended type since this
compression results in the smallest file size for the best
resolution. JPEG is also the type that is used on
the CVC website, so any other file types that are received
will be converted to this, if it is possible to do so.
For
quality, the best choice for resolution is either 640 x
480 pixels or 800 x 600 pixels. Though these may
not be the best for printing, they work great for display
on a computer, such as a web page. Some digital
cameras specify an "e-mail" setting for quality,
so you can choose this. If you are planning on
taking photos for both printing on paper and website
display, it will still work to choose a high resolution --
the only downside is that it may take quite a while to
send the e-mail with these photos attached.

EDITING
YOUR PHOTOS
After
having downloaded your digital photos to your computer,
you may alter them using a photo-editing tool to improve
the quality if you choose. Or, the un-edited
photo may be sent directly to the CVC Webmaster, who will then make the
necessary adjustments to the photo using photo-editing
tools,
so that the final picture will be displayed with the
correct color, brightness, size, etc.

E-MAILING
AS AN ATTACHMENT
Choose
which photos you would like published to the CVC website,
and then attach them to an e-mail addressed to:
webmaster@cowlitzvolleyball.com
Please
include information about the photos, such as team name,
tournament name, date, etc. We do request that
e-mails contain only 3 photos each, so please send
multiple e-mails if you are sending additional photos.

RESTRICTION
ON NUMBER OF PHOTOS
Considering
the large number of photos submitted each week, along with
the amount of time involved in posting these to the
website, we must respectfully request that a maximum
number of 15 photos may be submitted per person per week.
(It may be possible that a team may have more than 15 photos per
week if more than one person is submitting photos for that
team.)

HELPFUL
ADVICE
ACTION
SHOTS
It is very difficult to capture indoor action on a digital
camera. Poor lighting in the gyms along with a
subject in motion can lead to some very blurry
shots. We recommend that most photos be taken of subjects
that are stationary, or at least moving just
slightly. Unfortunately, this eliminates much of the
volleyball match (at least when the ball is in play), but
there are many other opportunities throughout a tournament
to take pictures.
DISTANCE
FROM SUBJECT
Because the photos will be reduced in size for posting on
the website (see below), we recommend using an optical
zoom when shooting from a distance, so that the
subject will appear larger.

FINAL
PRODUCT
After
you've submitted your photos, we will make
any necessary adjustments within our photo-editing tools to make the photo display correctly on the CVC
website. One of the substantial changes will be to
the size of the photo. Since photo file sizes are
very large compared to such things as text, it will be
necessary to reduce the size of the original photo to
between 10 and 50 kilobytes. This helps in speeding
up the download time for a photo. Another change
will be "cropping", which involve removing parts
of the photo. Cropping will be done when there is
space around the subject which is considered unnecessary
to the effectiveness of the display. This editing
feature also helps with download times.
One
final note : The Cowlitz Volleyball Club reserves the
right of refusal to publish, as well as the right to
disseminate and use, any digital photo which it receives.
